Our Mission

The Baby Bank is a community service project through the Olympia church of Christ and dedicated to helping those people who find themselves in need of help for their infants or young children. These people can be anyone who find themselves, due to circumstances, in need. We do require that the client obtain a Baby Bank referral from one of the local social service agencies, such as DSHS, WIC, the Salvation Army or the YWCA. A more complete list can be obtained by calling us. They will assist you in filling out the forms for the referral. This referral is good for six visits and the client can come as often as every two weeks.

The Baby Bank has been in operation, continuously since 1990 when it was started, as a result of a Bible class in the book of James, and Ms. Jeannie McConnell was the first director. It has served the community since and, from a beginning of helping 183 families and 238 infants in 1990, has grown to help 505 families and 817 infants in 2008. The products that are handed out are all donated by the community and/or the church except diapers. These are bought by the church and donated to the Baby Bank.

The Baby Bank is open on Wednesdays only from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. From 11:15 to 11:30 only diapers will be given out. If you are unable to come on Wednesday, an appointment for Tuesday can be made by calling. Everything is first come first served. Our staff of 5 regular and 3 alternate volunteers are available to help serve during Baby Bank hours. We are all here for your spiritual as well as your physical needs. We and our infants appreciate your donations. There is a constant need for blankets, quilts, clothing, shoes, bottles, furniture (such as cribs), toys, books, walkers and high chairs.
